To create a collection of favorite pages

View the page you want to add to your collection of favorite pages.
On the Favorites menu, choose Add Page To Favorites.

Tips

You can also choose New Favorite from the Favorites menu to open the Get Info dialog in which you can type the address of the page you want to add to your favorites list.
When you add a page with frames to your favorites list, choosing that favorite item will show you the page with its frames in the original state. You can add comments to the favorites item to help you remember how to navigate to a particular frame on the page.

The icons to the left of each favorite item represent what type of protocol that item uses.

	An HTML document on the Internet (HTTP protocol)
	A document on your computer (FILE protocol)
	An FTP site (FTP protocol)
	A mail document (MAILTO protocol)
	An Internet newsgroup (NEWS protocol)

To organize your favorites list

On the Favorites menu, choose Open Favorites.

To Do this

Add a new folder On the Favorites menu, choose New Folder. Folders are useful for organizing pages by topic. For example, you could create a folder named Art Pages for storing information about art exhibits and reviews.

Add a divider On the Favorites menu, choose New Divider.

Move favorite pages, folders, and dividers Drag the page, folder, or divider. A black bar indicates where the item will appear when you release the mouse button.

Get information about a favorite page Click the favorite page icon to select it, and then, on the File menu, choose Get Info.

Sort by addres Point to the Address column heading, and click.

Sort by name Point to the Name column heading, and click.

Resize columns Position the mouse pointer over the cross-hatched pattern (note that the mouse pointer changes to a hand), click, and then drag left or right.

Close the Favorites window Click the close box in the upper-left corner.

To delete a favorite page

On the Favorites menu, choose Open Favorites.
Click the item's icon to select it. To select multiple items, hold down the Shift key while you select.
Press the Delete key on the keyboard or drag the item(s) to the Trash.

Click the item name, and then type a new name.

To visit a favorite page

On the Favorites menu, choose Open Favorites.
Double-click the favorite page icon.

Tip

Add frequently used sites to the Favorites bar.

To import your favorites list

On the Favorites menu, choose Open Favorites.
To make sure the favorites window is active, click in it.
On the File menu, choose Import.
Select the HTML file you want to import.
The imported file appears in a folder with the same name as the file at the bottom of the Favorites window.

Tips

You can also import a file by dragging it from the Finder to the Favorites window.
To use your Anarchie Bookmarks, import the Bookmarks file in your Anarchie folder.
To use your Netscape Navigator™ Bookmarks, import the Bookmarks.html file in the System Folder/Preferences/Netscape folder.
To keep track of your favorite pages, you can organize them into folders.

To export your favorites list

On the Favorites menu, choose Open Favorites.
To make sure the favorites window is active, click in it.
On the File menu, choose Export.
Type a name for the file.
Choose the location where you want the file to be saved.

Tips

You can export just the contents of a folder in your favorites list by double-clicking the folder to open it and then choosing Export.
To keep track of your favorite pages, you can organize them into folders.

To subscribe to a favorite page

When you subscribe to a page, you can use Internet Explorer options to receive notification when the page changes.

On the Favorites menu, choose Open Favorites.
The column is located on the left-side of the favorites window. Click inside the column beside the favorite to which you want to subscribe. The subscription icon appears beside that favorite page to indicate that it is now a subscribed favorite.

Note

You can also subscribe to a favorite page by selecting it from the favorites list, and then choosing Get Info from the File menu. In the Get Info dialog box, click the Subscribe tab, and then select the Check This Site For Changes check box.

To cancel a favorite page subscription

On the Favorites menu, choose Open Favorites.
The icon appears beside subscribed favorites. Click the icon associated with the page whose subscription you want to cancel so that the icon disappears.

Note

You can also cancel a subscription to a favorite page by selecting the page from the favorites list, and then choosing Get Info from the File menu. In the Get Info dialog box, click the Subscribe tab, and then clear the Check This Site For Changes check box.

To view the list of updated subscribed pages

On the Favorites menu, choose Open Favorites.
The icon appears beside subscribed pages that have changed since you last visited them.
The icon appears besides pages that could not be checked for updates.

Notes

If you don't want to visit an updated subscribed page, and want to remove the or icons, double-click the icon to open the Get Info dialog box, and then click Clear.
To find out why a subscribed page could not be checked, double-click the icon, to open the Get Info dialog box, and read the subscription messages.

To change the update and notify settings for subscribed pages

On the Favorites menu, choose Subscription Options.
Click the Update tab, and then click the button that corresponds to how often you want Internet Explorer to look for updates to your subscribed pages.
Click the Notify tab, and then select the check box that corresponds to how you want to be notified of changes.

Note

You can use the Update Subscriptions command from the Favorites menu to check for updates at any time.

To change the notify setting for a specific subscribed page

On the Favorites menu, choose Open Favorites.
Double-click the beside the favorite page to open the Get Info dialog box.
Click the Notify tab, and then select the check box that corresponds to how you want to be notified of changes.

To create an alias to a page on the desktop

If the page is not on your favorites list, add it.
On the Favorites menu, choose Open Favorites.
Drag a page from the Favorites window to the desktop.

To add a page to the Favorites bar

If the page is not on your favorites list, add it.
On the Favorites menu, choose Open Favorites.
Drag an item to the Toolbar Favorites folder.

Tips

You can drag an item directly from the Favorites window onto the Favorites bar.
You can drag a link on a page onto the Favorites bar.

To remove a page from the Favorites bar

On the Favorites menu, choose Open Favorites.
Open the Toolbar Favorites folder.
To keep the site in your favorites list but not on the Favorites bar, drag the page out of the Toolbar Favorites folder. To remove the site from your favorites list completely, drag the page to the Trash.
